Description

Take to the saddle with this fantastic 1-hour horse riding tour through the beautiful Icelandic countryside. This tour is the perfect opportunity for beginners and riding enthusiasts alike, presenting you with the chance to both explore some truly breathtaking scenery and to further get to know this unique and authentically Icelandic horse breed.

Make your way to the town of Hveragerði, located just east of Reykjavík city along Iceland's Ring Road (Road 1), where you will find the stables. Upon arrival, you will be met by your friendly and experienced horse riding guide. Passionate about all things equestrian, they will be eager to share with you their wealth of information on riding techniques, the surrounding countryside and the horse breed itself.

The Icelandic Horse is famous for its short and sturdy stature, its resilience to the cold, and for its five unique gaits. All stable horses in Iceland are well-domesticated and used to being around people. To protect the species’ remarkable qualities, Icelandic horses are not allowed to return to the country once they have been exported.

After you have been briefed by your guide, you will be presented all of the necessary riding gear for your tour, including a helmet. All you must bring is some warm layers of clothing and your unbridled enthusiasm! Then, you will be lead to the stables where your very own horse will be picked out for you. When you’re all saddled up, its time to begin your 1-hour adventure exploring the many country trails outside of Hveragerði town.

Riders will be privy to a world of quaint farmlands, trickling glacial rivers and sweeping volcanic plateaus, really giving you a sense of the breadth of Iceland’s landscape. The area around Hveragerði is renown for its beauty and is often cited as one of the best places in Iceland in which to try your hand at horse riding.

So don't hesitate! Hurry now and you too can take an hour out exploring the countryside of west Iceland by horseback. Check availability by choosing a date.
