2 Hour Midnight Sun ATV Tour on Hafrafell & Ulfarsfell with Transfer from Reykjavik

Experience Iceland’s midnight sun in a thrilling new way, with this late-night ATV tour just outside Reykjavík. This tour should not be missed by those eager to see the beautiful phenomena of Iceland in summer without missing out on any adventure.

This tour begins after 21.00, when the sun is descending in the sky as if planning to set, at the ATV base camp on the outskirts of Reykjavík. You can either opt for a pick-up from the centre of the city, or make your own way there by car.

Once you arrive, your friendly, experienced guides will dress you in all necessary equipment, brief you on the tour, and introduce you to your ATV. To drive one, you are required to have a valid driver’s license, but even those as young as six can hop on board as passengers.

With the formalities complete, you’ll mount your ATV, and set off on your journey. The thrilling trails you will cover are bumpy, diverse, and provide incredible views of the landmarks around the capital.

You will first skirt around the edge of Lake Hafravatn, and see it in its summer glory, with its surface glittering over the low-hanging but ever-present sun, and its waters thriving with birdlife. You’ll then start your thrilling ascent up the slopes of Mount Hafravatn.

Once you reach its summit, you’ll have your chance to marvel over the views, still brightly lit in spite of the late hour. If the weather is clear, you’ll not only see the capital of Reykjavík and the bay of Faxafloi, but the Reykjanes Peninsula, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and Mount Esjan.

Mount Esjan is particularly of note, as in the height of summer, the sun descends to its flat peak, before appearing to bounce back into the sky.

You are free to take some photos and, if travelling with another driver, swap seats so that you get to experience the journey both as a passenger and behind the wheel. After that, you’ll continue on a rocky trail down this mountain, and up another one, Úlfarsfell. By the time you summit this peak, the sun will be reaching its lowest point, and the ‘golden hour’ of perfect lighting conditions will bless the views.

You will be driving your ATV and enjoying the spectacular surrounding scenery for approximately two hours, before you return to the base camp. You’ll then make your way back to Reykjavík, for a well-earned rest or to enjoy the capital’s famous nightlife.
