Day 1 - Welcome to Iceland

Welcome to Iceland, and the start of your adventure. At Keflavík International Airport or from Reykjavík city, you will meet your friendly and experienced guide who'll get your ready for your first excursion in a Super Jeep.

Today, you will be travelling to Hvolsvöllur town, making a number of stops along the route as you make sure to explore the Capital Region and Reykjanes Peninsula. Exactly where you will be stopping is left to the discretion of your guide, who will ensure that he takes you to the best spots on any given day.

You could, for example, be visiting the Kerið Crater, a geothermal valley or even some of the black sand beaches of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Wherever you visit, you’ll be sure to be in for some fascinating insight into Iceland’s culture, history and geology. You will also be making a stop for lunch in one of Iceland’s quintessential towns.

That evening, you will arrive at your accommodations for a spot to eat and drink and to finally settle yourself into your Icelandic experience. If you’re tired of travelling, you can feel free to enjoy the hot tub, keeping your eyes peeled for the auroras above, or, if you’ve still got some energy, you can take to the Super Jeep to hunt down the Northern Lights.

Day 2
Sólheimajökull is one of the best glaciers to try hiking in the whole of Iceland.

Day 2 - South Coast Glacier Adventure

Today, you will be experiencing the joys of glacier hiking on one of Iceland’s bejewelled icecaps. Glacier hiking is, without doubt, one of the most authentically Icelandic activities available given the fact that it combines physical trekking with truly sublime nature. First, however, a morning of sightseeing is in order!

Travelling along the picturesque South Coast, you will stop at numerous sights en route to check out some of Iceland’s most famous attractions. For example, you’ll pay a visit to Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, both are which are considered staple attractions in the region. Both standing at sixty metres, Skógafoss is the wider and the more ferocious of the two, while Seljalandsfoss boasts a cavern hidden behind the falls.

You will also pass through the fishing village of Vík í Mýrdal, an excellent place to grab some lunch and do a little souvenir shopping. Vík í Mýrdal is found right beside the black sand beach, Reynisfjara, known for its volcanic shorelines and the basalt rock stacks, Reynisdrangar.

In the afternoon, it’s time to try your hand at glacier hiking. At the base of the ice cap, you will be provided with all necessary equipment, including helmets and crampons, and given a quick lesson on how to correctly walk on the ice.

From your vantage point atop Sólheimajökull glacier, you will have breathtaking views of the South Coast, stretching from the mountainous highlands to the rolling blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

At the end of the day, most guests are quite tired, choosing to relax back at base camp with a delicious meal, drinks and a spot of bathing in the hot tub. However, if conditions look fit for Northern Lights, you’re more than welcome to jump on a nighttime excursion before heading to bed.

Day 3
Super Jeeps are the only vehicle capable of traversing Þórsmörk Valley.

Day 3 - Thorsmork / Eyjafjallajokull Super Jeep Adventure

On your third day, you will be exploring the incredible valley of Þórsmörk, named after the Norse God of Thunder. The valley is most famous for its eclectic hiking trails and captivating natural panoramas. Trundling across this rough terrain from the passenger seat of your super jeep, you’ll find yourself transfixed and hypnotised by the passing landscapes.

Þórsmörk is home to the staggering ice cap, Eyjafjallajökull, infamous for the 2010 eruption that simultaneously halted European air traffic and started off Iceland’s current tourism boom. Looking at this incredible natural force, you will be amazed by the sheer size, drama and power that earth’s primordial forces can create. You will pay a visit to Gígjökull, the outlet glacier where the eruption started.

After your time in the valley, there are a number of options available regarding how to fill your late afternoon. You could choose to visit the town’s swimming pool, for example, or take a cycling tour around Hvolsvöllur.

Another option might be to visit the Lava Centre, an excellent stop to gain a deeper insight into Iceland’s geological underbelly. As with previous nights, if conditions seem suitable, you will head out in search of the Northern Lights.
