Description

Discover the breathtaking beauty of the Icelandic Highlands on this exciting full-day hiking excursion, including Reykjavik transfers. Active adventurers looking to explore one of the country's top hiking areas and bathe in geothermal waters amid stunning nature should book this tour now.

Your day begins with pick-up from one of three locations in central Reykjavik. Pick-up is also available from a meeting point in the towns of Selfoss or Hella.

When everyone is on board, the driver will take you to Landmannalaugar in the Highlands. Sit back and enjoy the scenic South Iceland countryside, your first glimpse of the incredible nature you'll see throughout your day.

Landmannalaugar is in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. It's a geothermally-active area featuring diverse landscapes, from lava fields to brightly-colored mountains and steaming hot springs.

The group will arrive in Landmannalaugar around noon, ready to begin the hike. Your starting point at the main hut boasts an awe-inspiring landscape.

Marvel at the colorful rhyolite mountains in shades of red, pink, green, and yellow towering around you. Landmannalaugar is a picture-perfect setting, so ensure your camera is ready. After you've captured a few shots, your group will begin the trek to discover more of the area's rugged natural beauty.

Today's hike is approximately five to six miles (eight to 10 kilometers) long. It is expected to take around four hours and is considered an easy-moderate walk.

Leaving the hut, you'll traverse the Laugahraun lava fields, formed after a 1477 volcanic eruption. The black dried magma, in parts covered in green moss, contrasts wonderfully with the colorful mountains. It's a landscape unique to this area that you'll be thrilled you made time to see.

The vibrant colors continue as you trek through the Vondugil canyon and head up Mount Brennisteinsalda. This volcanic peak is also known as the Sulphur Wave, one of the area's most striking features. The sulfur and iron against the green moss and black lava below are a feast for the eyes.

After taking some time to appreciate panoramic views from the top, the group will walk down the Graenagil (green) gorge, where green rhyolite dominates the scenery.

Depending on the group, there may be time to summit Blahnukur Volcano. At just over 3000 feet (940 meters) tall, it's slightly higher than Brennisteinsalda.

Its name means "blue peak" because of the blue-black colors of its sides, adding yet another shade to this brilliant rainbow-like landscape.

At the end of this world-class hiking trail, the ultimate reward awaits. Your group will have the opportunity to bathe in a natural geothermal hot spring in Landmannalaugar. As you ease your tired muscles in the warm thermal waters, you'll know this is the perfect end to your day.

After your unforgettable hiking and hot spring excursion, your driver will take you back to Reykjavik.

Don't miss the chance to enjoy one of Iceland's most picturesque day hikes, followed by natural hot spring bathing, with transfers from Reykjavik. Check availability now by choosing a date.
