Prikid in downtown Reykjavik

When traveling around the world, either for work or simply for vacation, you learn to appreciate all the smalls things back home. For me, one of these things are the local coffee shops in Iceland. Sure - you can get coffee anywhere but you can't really top the experience of dealing with local coffeeshops, stationed 64.9° north of the equator, some of whom have in some remarkable way kept their business going for decades.

My favourite coffee shop in Reykjavik, Prikið, can be found in one of the oldest houses in the city. It's been running for over 60 years and its history is beautifully portrayed on the walls, where pictures of old regulars hang. It's also the best hip hop place on weekends and a fun place to party.
