Description

Travel along the greatest region of Iceland’s west with this special jeep tour of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This excursion will take you into one of Iceland’s National Parks, and to a wealth of diverse sites.

The jeep you will be picked up in from Reykjavík has a maximum capacity of ten guests, ensuring a personalised experience. As soon as your group has boarded, you will head north to the peninsula, via a stop for refreshments in Borgarnes.

The first sign that you have reached Snæfellsnes is the Gerðuberg cliffs. These have a long and dramatic row of perfectly formed hexagonal columns, very unusual and rare formations caused by old eruptions only found in few places around the world.

Next on the peninsula, you can find a seal colony that rests on Ytri Tunga beach, great for those who love wildlife. Animal lovers will also rejoice a little further down at the Londrangar pinnacles, which thousands of birds nest on, particularly summer. Between these two destinations is the Rauðfeldsgjá gorge, a dramatic ravine in a mighty cliff face.

You will then come across the incredible Snæfellsjökull, a twin-peaked subglacial volcano within a National Park of the same name. This feature is best known for holding a cave said to lead you on a ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’, in the Jules Verne novel at least.

Finally, you will reach one of the most picturesque mountains in Iceland, the pyramid-shaped Mount Kirkjufell. This is a popular subject for photographers, particularly from angles where the adjacent waterfall can be included in the composition.

As you travel across the peninsula, you will see many fishing villages, coastal features, and beautiful countryside. After truly appreciating it all, you will be whisked back to Reykjavík.

See the land nicknamed ‘Iceland in Miniature’, and find out why. Check availability by choosing a date.
