Grásteinn Rock in Reykjavík - is this Rock the Home of the Icelandic Elves?
A rock split in two can be found in the Grafarholt suburb on the outskirts of Reykjavík, Iceland's capital city. It is located by ring-road 1 on Vesturlandsvegur road on the land of Keldur. In this rock, Grásteinn or Grey-stone, some elves are said to live, and it makes for an interesting story of how we found out about the elves in this rock. The mystical Rauðhólar Pseudocraters and Tröllabörn - the Troll Children in SW-Iceland
In this travel-blog I am going to show you a special phenomenon that you pass when you drive on ring-road 1 just east of Reykjavík city. You will notice a cluster of dark maroon hills. These hills are called Rauðhólar - Red Hills and are around 5,000 years old pseudocraters - give or take a few years. The gentle Giantess in the Cave in Keflavík in SW-Iceland - Skessan í hellinum
In a mysterious cave by the marina in Keflavík town lives a Giantess with a heart of gold. The Black Cave of the Giantess was opened on the 6th of September 2008 during the town festival Ljósanótt - Night of Lights. On that day the Giantess moved all the way from her mountain into the cave in SW-Iceland. She doesn't have a name, as she has forgotten it, but is referred to as Giganta - Skessan in Icelandic. At last, I joined a glacier hike tour on Sólheimajökull glacier in South-Iceland. As even though I have lived here in Iceland my whole life I had never gone glacier hiking before. I often visit the pretty little villages on the south coast of Iceland, Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki - where the pace of life is much different than that of Reykjavík, Iceland's capital city, where I live. Raufarhólshellir lava cave - the Lava Tunnel - is one of the extraordinary lava caves in Iceland. It has just recently been made more accessible to visitors and reopened with guided tours in June 2017. It is such a delight visiting this 4th longest lava cave in Iceland. The remote Strandir in Iceland - Stillness & Sorcery
Join me on a day tour of one of the remotest areas of Iceland - the scenic Strandir. While some 7,000 people live in the Westfjords Region of Iceland, 4,000 of whom live in the capital city of the Westfjords, Ísafjörður, only some 43 people live in Árneshreppur rural district at Strandir.
