Description

Join this incredible glacier hike on your trip to Iceland.

You will meet your guide and group at our Skaftafell Booking Center next to the car park at Skaftafell Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is situated in Vatnajökull National Park. We look forward to leaving on an adventure with you! This tour is very easy and suitable for all levels, so come and join us to experience the fantastic landscapes and ice worlds of Falljökull glacier in Vatnajökull national park. Vatnajökull glacier is the largest glacier in Europe, and you get to walk on one of its glacier tongues! What a unique experience, something that you will never forget.

We will take with us our glacier hike equipment from the booking centre and take a 15-minute drive towards the glacier. There we will gear up and start walking towards the glacier. We will need crampons, harnesses and an ice axe on this tour. Our guides will tell you about the stunning geology of the area. You have the unique chance to see Mt. Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland's highest peak from your walk towards the glacier.

It is soon time to take the first steps on the glacier and encounter mountains, crevasses and all kinds of icescapes on the glacier. What a fantastic experience!

Your guide will explain to you how glaciers are always moving and ever-changing, thus creating the incredible ice-sculptures on the glacier. Crevasses are deep cuts in the glacier which will open up as glaciers move from the mountains to the sea and the surface cracks open to give you a view deep into the glacial ice. Moulins, or glacier mills, are part of the drainage system of the glacier, as they often reach from the surface to the bottom of the glacier tongue. They often have an intense blue colour, and sometimes they even have waterfalls inside them.

Don't forget your camera at home to capture some unforgettable pictures.
