Description

Join us on this adventurous two day and one night tour into Þórsmörk Valley.

Experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend a night in this incredibly magical valley!

We start our trip by driving towards Þórsmörk valley, either from your accommodation or from the base on road 249, around 3 kilometers from Seljalandsfoss waterfall. To get to this secluded valley we drive on a rough F-road and cross several gushing glacial rivers. The drive itself is quite the adventure!

When in Þórsmörk we enjoy the contrasted view of rough mountain ridges and the beautiful Icelandic nature. We also hike some beautiful trails and look for signs of elves and trolls! We also observe the marks that the many volcanic eruptions have had on the area.

We view the majestic Eyjafjallajökull glacier from below, and feast on a nice BBQ dinner at the famous Volcano Huts in Húsadalur, where you will stay for the night.

After dinner you can go out and enjoy the bright Icelandic summer night or in winter time gaze at the sky for some flickering stars and dancing northern lights.

Our guides are locals with years of experience and an endless passion for the Icelandic nature. They posses infinite knowledge of the area and provide you with enlightening entertainment along the way.

The next day we continue to explore the beautiful valley. Since the 1918 eruption of Katla, Þórsmörk was designated as a Natural Mountain Reserve and because of that, parts of the valley have become rich with mosses, ferns and birch trees.

In the early afternoon we start to head back out of the valley, but the trip does not end there as the scenic drive gives great photo opportunities and spectacular hiking options.

Are you looking to immerse yourself in Icelandic nature? Then this is the perfect tour for you!

Daily itinerary

Day 1
Night falls on Þórsmörk Nature Reserve.

Day 1 - Reykjavík – Þórsmörk

On day one, your guide will pick you up from your accommodation in the morning and head east toward Þórsmörk. You'll take a bumpy drive down a Highland road into the nature reserve, clearly seeing the effects of the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull. The best example is at the stop at Gígjökull glacier, where you will truly experience the fierce power of nature.

You'll then head on deeper into Þórsmörk valley with a stop at Steinholt for a short hike in the dramatic landscape. You'll next reach your mountain hut at Húsadalur, where you will enjoy a delicious barbeque and spend the night.

Before going to bed you can go for a magical hike around the hut in the fresh Icelandic air. In winter, you may even see the Northern Lights.

Day 2
A glacier stream winds its way through Þórmörk.

Day 2 - Þórsmörk – Reykjavík

On the second day, you'll explore Þórsmörk even better. After a decent breakfast, you'll go for a drive and a few hikes in the beautiful nature. Since the 1918 eruption of Katla, Þórsmörk was designated as a Natural Mountain Reserve, and since then, most of the valley has become rich with moss, fern and birch trees.

After your exploration, you'll head on back towards civilisation, making stops at Seljalandsfoss waterfall and the black sand beach of Reynisfara before going back to your accommodation in Reykjavík.
