Entering the heart of the earth and witnessing the inside of a volcano up close was an absolutely spectacular experience. The two-mile hike to the crater allowed us to appreciate the vastness of the volcanic zone and the desolate beauty of the volcanic rocks and tundra landscape. We crossed the rift between the Eurasian tectonic plates and walked under an almost touchable double rainbow, descending hundreds of meters deep into the underground volcanic chamber. Inside the enormous space, varied minerals formed strikingly rugged and glittering patterns, with subterranean springs murmuring all around and lava rocks rising and falling in extraordinary shapes. A special recommendation goes to our guide, Hamer, who was warm, friendly, patient, and attentive—during the hike, he accommodated guests of different fitness levels, and in the volcanic chamber, he proactively helped everyone take group photos.
