Kvernufoss Waterfall - the less visited Neighbour of Skógafoss in South-Iceland
Kvernufoss waterfall is a beautiful 30-meters high (98 ft) waterfall that is half-hidden away in a gorge in South Iceland, yet very close to the ring-road. It is located on the east side of the popular Skógafoss waterfall and is often overlooked by travellers. I myself visited it for the first time back in 2010 but had often ogled it from the ring road when driving east after visiting Skógafoss waterfall. Next to the very popular Geysir geothermal area in South Iceland, you will find one of our national treasures; the huge Haukadalsskógur forest - Iceland standard -, a lovely church, and a small geothermal pool in which one can bathe. The Mystical Nauthúsagil Ravine in South Iceland & its beautiful Waterfalls
There are some hidden places in Iceland, which are like out of this world. I visited one of them recently, the mystical Nauthúsagil ravine in South Iceland, which translated to English means Bull Shed Ravine. I know that the name sounds a bit strange, but I will explain how this name came about a little further on in my travel-blog. Extremely dangerous Waves by Reynisfjara and Kirkjufjara black Beaches in South-Iceland!
Yet another fatal accident took place on the 10th of June 2022 on Reynisfjara beach in South Iceland, when a foreign traveller was swept out to sea by the sneaker waves on this notorious beach. His wife got caught in the same wave but got saved. The last fatal accident before this one took place on the 10th of November 2021, when a young Chinese woman was swept away by the sneaker waves. Bárður Snæfellsás - the Mythical Protector of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland
In my 5-part series of travel-blogs about the Magical Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland, I often mentioned the half troll-half man Bárður Snæfellsás - the Protector of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. I love writing about my ancestors the Vikings, who settled in Iceland in 874 AD give or take a few years, and I often get this question: "Where can I see Viking stuff in Iceland?". The Westman Islands - Sæheimar Museum and the Puffins - Closed with a new Home at Sea Life Trust
I have written several travel-blogs on the volcanic Vestmannaeyjar - the Westman islands and now I want to tell you about a lovely museum, which in my opinion is a must-visit. This museum is called Sæheimar Aquarium or the Aquarium and Museum of Natural History of Vestmannaeyjar - the first of its kind in Iceland, established back in 1964. A volcanic eruption in 1973 in the Westman Islands caused massive destruction and forced all the islanders to flee up to the mainland of Iceland. I visited a new and unique museum in the Westman Islands called Eldheimar - the Pompei of the North, where you can get to know all about the volcanic eruption in 1973 in the Westman Islands.
