Fish Market
The Fish Market, or Fiskmarkaðurinn in Icelandic, is a great restaurant in Reykjavik, run by renowned Icelandic chef Hrefna Sætran. It serves new-style seafood and Japanese cuisine with an Icelandic twist, using fresh and authentic ingredients. As the restaurant is very popular, booking your table at the Fish Market in advance is advised.

The Fish Market offers an upscale dining experience with interesting and inventive dishes inspired by Japanese food culture and drawing from Iceland's abundant and fresh marine resources. It's the sister restaurant of the Grillmarket, which is also known for its high-quality dishes.
Seafood enthusiasts can expect an array of choices that highlight the freshest catches of the day. The lightly salted cod is a comforting yet refined dish. And don't miss out on the miso "black cod," king prawn tempura, and their sushi and sashimi selections – they're expertly prepared and presented beautifully.
It's not just about seafood, though. The Fish Market caters to all tastes with a range of meat, vegetarian, and even vegan options. If you're up for a special treat, the Robata grill options are a must-try.
And when it comes to dessert, they don't disappoint. The white chocolate cheesecake is heavenly, and if you're up for sharing, go for the premium blend dessert platter. It's the perfect way to end your meal on a sweet note.

Finding the ideal drink to complement your meal is a breeze, thanks to the extensive wine list and an enticing selection of creative cocktails. The staff are always on hand to offer great pairing recommendations and share valuable insights about the dishes.
On the upper floor of the restaurant, you'll find the Uppi lounge and wine bar. It features the largest wine menu in Iceland, featuring some options exclusive to the Fish Market!
For those who simply want to savor delightful drinks, reserving a table at the Uppi wine bar is a great option. It's worth noting that while Iceland's drinking age is 20, the Uppi wine bar enforces a minimum age of 25, and the dress code is smart casual.

The setting of the Fish Market is quaint and full of character, as it's located in Adalstraeti 12, one of the oldest houses in Reykjavik! It used to stand at Austurstraeti 8 but was moved to its current location in 1999. The house was originally built in 1886 and housed the Ísafold printing press and bookstore, and it was also the childhood home of Sveinn Björnsson, the first president of Iceland!
Inside this historic house, the atmosphere strikes a balance between cozy and upscale. The interior design blends modern elements seamlessly, creating a comfortable and inviting space that's perfect for both a cozy lunch and a special dinner outing.
